How I Record At Home

Recording music myself was something that I wanted to do but had no experience or knowledge in. I started at the beginning and looked into what kind of technology, equipment, and software I would need. I got a lot of advice from my guitar teacher who helped me figure out the best options. Recording music has been a big process that I am still learning and figuring out. I started with using the free version of Ableton which was helpful to do basic things but did not have the capability to do what I was hoping for recording. It also seemed pretty complicated and was a lot at once.

Eventually, I decided just to get Logic Pro from Apple and really dive into my music recording. Before I purchased it I had seen it before and it looked awesome. It was a lot for me to spend though. I tapped into my savings and decided to do it. The program is so worth the money! I haven’t been using logic that long and I know there is so much more to learn. It is really all-encompassing and very user-friendly. There is so much creative stuff you can do within the program. Logic Pro makes my music sound much more professional and unique.

When I record I start with guitar, then add drums and any digital sounds I want. I record vocals. Then I add details and I perfect what I recorded.

The equipment I use

Focusrite Scarlett Solo

I’ve had no problems with this interface. It works great. Definitely recommend!

Sony Premium Lightweight Wireless Bluetooth

These have been wonderful headphones and have a very clear sound. FYI, you have to get a long chord and a headphone adapter to plug directly into the interface.

Microphone

This microphone works well. It gets the job done and vocals come out clean and it integrates well into software programs.

Guitar cable

My cable is 6 feet long so it gives me lots of space to stretch out when I play. I like that! This cable connects my guitar to my interface.

Logic Pro

Logic Pro is amazing! It is very efficient to use and creates professional sounds. Highly recommend.

M-Audio Keystation

I am still learning this keyboard, but it has been working well since I got it. It’s good to have something like this. I’m looking forward to learning more about it.

I also use an acoustic guitar that can be plugged into an amp or interface. I record my music using a MacBook computer.

Recording music has a learning curve but I’ve been getting the hang of it. I can’t wait to learn more and become an expert using Logo Pro. I will keep you all updated on my recording process!
